A Community of Destinations

Washington Park sits just two miles west of downtown Portland—close enough to feel like the city’s backyard, yet expansive enough to feel like a world apart. Its 410 acres are threaded into the fabric of the city through trails, paths, and transit connections that link the Park to the neighborhoods and people surrounding it. The Park is also home to some of Portland’s most iconic places, including the International Rose Test Garden, which has helped shape the city’s identity as “The Rose City” since 1917.

But Washington Park is more than any single destination within it. The Rose Garden, Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, Portland Japanese Garden, and World Forestry Center are each remarkable on their own, but together they form a community: one interconnected Park with gardens, trails, culture, and discovery at every turn.

Portland Japanese Garden is a proud participant in Arts for All, making the beauty and serenity of the Garden accessible to families and individuals who receive food stamps (SNAP). Where is Washington Park?

Washington Park is located just two miles west of downtown Portland, Oregon, with 410 acres of gardens, trails, attractions, and cultural destinations to explore. The Park is easy to reach by car, bike, or public transit. Visitors can take TriMet’s MAX Blue Line or Red Line directly to Washington Park Station, or ride several nearby bus routes.

When is the Park open?

Washington Park is open daily from 5am to 10pm. Visitor Services from Explore Washington Park are available daily from 10am to 4pm, including information booths, visitor assistance, maps, and trip-planning help during the busy season.

How much does the Park cost?

Washington Park is free to enter and explore. Many of the Park’s gardens, trails, memorials, playgrounds, and public spaces are free year-round. Some attractions charge admission, but each offers discounted programs for qualifying visitors.

Parking in Washington Park is paid, with hourly and daily rates that help support transportation and visitor services throughout the Park.
