SUMMARY:Sasquatch: Ancestral Guardians
DESCRIPTION:“We must walk lightly when we are between worlds with this sacred being.” – Phillip Cash Cash Indigenous peoples have long been in relationship with and shared stories about sacred forest protectors\, often called Sasquatch and Bigfoot. The works in this exhibition are made by Indigenous artists and honor generations of spiritual practices\, storytelling\, and tradition. Leave your preconceived notions behind and immerse yourself\, not in the question of if Sasquatch exists\, but rather\, how are we existing with and honoring this non-human other.

Volunteers should plan to bring water\, snacks\, and any other personal items they need onsite. No previous stewardship crew experience is required; training\, tools\, gloves\, and volunteer parking passes are provided. Registration is required through the Hoyt Arboretum website.

SUMMARY:Ikebana International Chrysanthemum Show
DESCRIPTION:Ikebana International (Portland Chapter #47) celebrates the chrysanthemum in this special\, two-day only exhibition in the Yanai Classroom. Ikebana International first celebrated Kiku Matsuri\, the Chrysanthemum Festival\, at Portland Japanese Garden in 1983. Local ikebana artists from various schools\, or styles\, will create arrangements featuring chrysanthemums\, known as kiku in Japanese. Ikebana\, a Japanese artform\, has been translated as “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers\,” and is unique from other approaches to flower arrangement. In ikebana\, asymmetry and the use of empty space are essential features of the overall composition. A sense of harmony among the materials\, the container\, and the setting is also crucial.

SUMMARY:The Essential Shift
DESCRIPTION:There is magic in the forest—in the trees! Step away from the demands of your busy life and the noise of the world. Come into the quiet wonder of the forest\, where trees offer a grounded welcome. When you meet a tree and feel the same life force moving through you both\, something inside remembers—you are home. The to-do’s and the worries fade away. This workshop is created for you to quiet the chatter in your mind and experience an essential shift to the present. For most people\, this pivotal shift happens more easily in nature. Flora will guide you through Qigong movements\, Tree Transformation Card readings\, and other practices to assist in this essential shift. This event is coordinated by Hoyt Arboretum\, and registration is required through their website.
