Join Meghan Kearns from the Oregon Maple Project to learn about the history\, science\, process\, and best practices for maple sugaring in the PNW. Take a guided walk on Arboretum trails to visit Bigleaf Maples that have been tapped\, as well as watch a tree tapping demonstration. The program will conclude with a maple syrup tasting. Take home tapping kits and syrup will be available for purchase. This event is coordinated by Hoyt Arboretum\, and registration is required through their website.

This event is family-friendly\, and crafts are geared toward kids who can independently use scissors\, glue sticks\, and basic school supplies or with parental assistance. SUMMARY:Cultural Talk: Hina Dolls by Tsuru Tuenge
DESCRIPTION:Leading up to our Doll’s Day Festival on March 1st\, come hear Tsuru Tuenge talk about hina dolls and Hina Matsuri from 1:15-2:15pm in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center. This talk will take place near a traditional display of hina dolls\, featuring a seven-tiered display representing the Emperor and Empress with members of the Imperial Court. Hina Matsuri\, also called Doll’s Day or Girl’s Day\, is celebrated each year in Japan on March 3 to celebrate the happiness\, growth\, and good health of girls. In Japan\, families with daughters mark the festival by displaying intricately crafted hina dolls dressed in ornate costumes several days before the festival. Included with garden admission.
