DESCRIPTION:Join us during member hours to view the latest Art Exhibition\, Garden of Resonance: The Art of Jun Kaneko\, before it opens to the public.\nThe Pavilion Gallery will be open from 9am to 10am\, and Gallery staff will be available to share behind-the-scenes information and insights on Kaneko and his works. \nAt 9:30am\, starting at the Pavilion Gallery\, our Arlene Schnitzer Curator of Culture\, Art\, & Education\, Aki Nakanishi\, along with Dr. Frank Feltens\, Japan Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art\, will be giving a guided tour of the pieces located throughout the Garden. \nSpace for the Curator’s tour is limited and reservations are required. You’ll come away with an even greater appreciation for these tiny birds plus tips on how to invite them to your own garden.\nAbout the instructor: Longtime birder and teacher Laura Whittemore loves to show beginners the tricks of the trade. She has taught classes for Portland Audubon and previously worked for Backyard Bird Shop. DESCRIPTION:Star Festival features a colorful display of tanzaku\, or wish strips\, hanging from bamboo. This tradition of writing wishes or prayers comes from the Edo period\, when children were encouraged to practice their writing and hang them from bamboo for all to see.
