SUMMARY:Garden of Resonance: The Art of Jun Kaneko
DESCRIPTION:Portland Japanese Garden is delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed artist Jun Kaneko (b. 1942-). Kaneko\, recently honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center\, has made major contributions to the field of sculptural art on a global scale\, exploring the relationships between art\, nature\, and people with the bold and placement of his works.\nKaneko’s famously large and evocative outdoor ceramic statues will be installed across our spectacular garden spaces\, creating a stunning juxtaposition with the fiery reds and oranges of our maples in fall. This will be in addition to more intimate pieces from the nearly\n60 years of Kaneko’s marvelous career\, including paintings and works on paper. \nAdult: $19.95\, Senior (65+) $16.25\, Student: $15.25\, Youth (6-17): $13.50\, Child under 6: Free

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing (in-person\, outside)
DESCRIPTION:Experience a two-hour guided forest bathing walk through Hoyt Arboretum’s unique tree collection and forested areas. Forest Bathing (also known as Forest Therapy) offers many health benefits from stress relief to immune system and mood support.\nForest therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Forest therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku\, which translates to “forest bathing.” Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits\, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems\, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. We build on those benefits and look beyond\, to what happens when people remember that we are a part of nature\, not separate from it\, and are related to all other beings in fundamental ways. \nAbout the Instructor: Shawna Hartung is a certified guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. She has over 20 years of experience leading nature-based programs for youth and adults in the Pacific Northwest. \nMember Cost: $20.00\, Non-Member Cost: $25.00 \nIf you qualify for an Oregon income assistance program\, please email nina@hoytarboretum.org for details about further discounted program rates.
