DESCRIPTION:During this 2-hour sensory photography walk at Hoyt Arboretum\, we will follow morning light as the sun slowly rises through the landscape\, revealing tiny worlds\, glowing leaves\, and quiet details that often go unnoticed. This experience is an invitation to slow down and learn how to see with attention\, presence\, and curiosity. Your camera (digital or analog) or phone becomes a tool for noticing.  As light gradually enters the Arboretum’s coves of sequoias and redwoods\, sun turns the forest into a “cathedral built by bark and leaves\,” as John Steinbeck wrote in Travels with Charley. Together\, we will explore how sunlight transforms textures\, shapes\, and colors — and how to translate those sensations into poetic images. By the end of the walk\, you will leave with new ways of seeing Hoyt Arboretum and its diverse ecosystem and a small collection of vibrant\, nature-inspired images. Forest Bathing offers many health benefits from stress relief to immune system and mood support. Forest therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. DESCRIPTION:Experience a guided forest bathing walk through Hoyt Arboretum’s unique tree collection and forested areas. Forest Bathing (also known as Forest Therapy) offers many health benefits from stress relief to immune system and mood support. Forest therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Forest therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku\, which translates to “forest bathing.” Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits\, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems\, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. We build on those benefits and look beyond\, to what happens when people remember that we are a part of nature\, not separate from it\, and are related to all other beings in fundamental ways. Note: Please only register for this workshop if you identify as queer or trans. This event is coordinated by Hoyt Arboretum and registration is required through their website.

SUMMARY:Trees For All: Paved Trail Public Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Trees For All Public Tour explores Hoyt Arboretum from accessible paved trails. The tour loops around the Visitor Center and parking lot and then continutes onto the Overlook Trail. A gentle incline leads to an optional lookout point with a (weather-permitting) view of Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Rainier. Tour highlights include oaks\, beeches\, native shrubs and conifers\, and an overview of the conservation and community science work conducted by the Arboretum. This tour is reserved for people who are disabled\, chronically ill\, neurodivergent\, and/or have lived experience of any disability\, broadly defined. Supportive family\, friends\, and caregivers are also welcome. This tour is coordinated by Hoyt Arboretum and registration is required through their website.
