Parking near the Garden fills up quickly, especially on weekends and sunny days. Instead of dealing with limited, metered parking, consider taking public transit! Ride the MAX Blue or Red Line to the Washington Park MAX Station, then hop on the Washington Park Free Shuttle Loop to reach the Garden. You can also take TriMet Line 63 directly to Portland Japanese Garden. If you prefer a scenic walk, you can hike up from the MAX station—just be prepared for a bit of a climb!

Tickets often sell out on sunny days. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance on sunny days!
Reservations aren’t required, but they are highly recommended when visiting the Umami Cafe. Seating can fill up quick on busy days. Garden admission is required when visiting Umami Cafe.
Trip Tip: If you don’t have a reservation, Umami Cafe sells Hot Tea To-Go so you can stroll through the Garden with tea in-hand!
