Whether you are a budding artist wanting to learn about botany or a plant lover eager to hone your botanical illustration skills, this class is for you! Instructor Ruth Williams will teach students the basics of botanical illustration as you observe the colors, shapes, and structures of delicate fall leaves.
Participants will walk to the Maple collection to make observations and gather fallen leaves. The walk is about 1 mile on sloping, paved and packed dirt trails. The second half of the class will be indoors at the Visitor Center library, where Ruth will guide students to draw, sketch, and paint what they have seen.
About the instructor: Ruth Williams is a consulting arborist and plant enthusiast with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture from UC Davis. She has been drawing and painting plants for 17 years. She teaches botanical illustration and plant identification classes at Hoyt.
