The Rangers are not law enforcement officers, rather they serve as goodwill ambassadors and provide a positive public safety presence in Portland parks and park facilities enforcing Park rules. Who should I call in the case of an emergency in Washington Park?

If you are experiencing an emergency—such as a crime in progress, a medical emergency, a fire, or any situation that threatens life or safety—call 911 immediately.

Portland Park Rangers are present in Washington Park and can call first responders like Portland Police or Portland Fire if needed, but we encourage you to call 911 directly for urgent situations. Rangers primarily handle park rule violations and work with the Portland Police Bureau on issues that go beyond their authority.

Examples of emergencies that should be reported to 911 include criminal activity, weapons, threats, or any immediate danger.
