Enjoy a free koto and cello performance by Masumi Timson and Dr. Joseph Harchanko at 1:15 pm at the Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center. The performance will feature guest drummer Philip Thoennes.

When the root is deep, there is no need to fear the wind. Many tai chi moves use images from nature—stable as a pine, flowing like a river, hands moving as clouds. Enjoying tai chi in the Arboretum allows us to connect deeply to that imagery.
Photographer Members are given special, after-hours access where they can come capture their favorite views of the Garden during fall colors without the crowds.
Join us for a musical performance featuring shinobue flute and Tsugaru shamisen by Yumi Torimaru. This cultural performance will be held from 1:15 to 2:30pm in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center.
Members and guests are invited to extended evening hours to experience the Garden in its fleeting autumnal colors.

Discover the feathered friends who make their home at Hoyt Arboretum. You will search high and low with experienced birder Laura Whittemore as you learn how to identify common birds of Hoyt Arboretum by sight and sound. Learn where to look for certain species as well as what clues can be helpful when attempting to identify quick moving birds. No previous birding experience is required. Binoculars will be available to borrow.

Join environmental educator Roland Begin for a hike around Hoyt Arboretum – and through ‘deep time’ – to learn about the unique geology of Portland’s West Hills. We’ll get to walk beside an earthquake fault – and gain an appreciation of ‘timefulness’ and the ever-changing land beneath our feet.
Join us at the Cultural Corner from 1:15 – 2:30pm for an performance of this uniquely expressive flute by Patrick Johnson, who has studied shakuhachi for over 25 years.
